The origin of the Cooperative Camp de Cervià and Credit Section was founded in 1914 when, on initiative of 41 small agricultural owners producing oil, the Agricultural Syndicate and Caja Rural de Cervià were established. The first oil factory, which relied on two hydraulic presses, was first built in 1918 on the same plot of land where the present Cooperative takes up. With the change of year, to be more precise at midnight on the 1st of January 1919, and with a multitudinous attendance, the first batch of oil was pressed. In 1920 our Cooperative already had 130 members and expanded the facilities to 5 hydraulic presses and 4 grinders moved by electric power. From then until now, the Cooperative continued producing the olive oil with its characteristic excellent quality. Nowadays the Cooperative relies on more than 600 members who pick olives from the lands of Cervià de Les Garrigues, El Vilosell, l’Albi and La Pobla de Cérvoles. |
